About the UDHR Audio/Video Project

People cannot fight for their rights, or the rights of others, if they don't know what those rights are.

Too many people are still unaware that they have rights or what those rights are. Our dream is to fix this problem, and in doing so, we recognize that education is everything.

As part of the #StandUp4HumanRights campaign, the UDHR Audio/Video Project is a multilingual, collaborative effort of Universal Human Rights Initiative (UHRI), the United Nations (Department of Public Information and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights) and Showbox, a video-creation platform. Read more about our partnership in the UN's press release.

The goal of our project is to raise awareness about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) by creating a technology-enabled educational tool that can be used by anyone, anywhere in the world.

To that end, the project is recording audio and video of native speakers reading the UDHR in each of its 500+ translated languages.

Once a recording has been completed and integrated into our UDHR App, links are sent to human rights NGOs and other organizations in the areas where the language is spoken.

By adding audio, video and images to the text of the UDHR, we are making the Declaration available to the 900+ million people who cannot access the text alone due to visual impairment or illiteracy.

How to Help:
There are many ways you can participate in the UDHR Audio/Video Project!

We still need audio recordings of many different languages. If you are a native speaker of languages that we haven't yet recorded, or if you know people who would be willing to record the UDHR in one of these languages, please let us know.

To record video of yourself reading one or more articles of the UDHR, please visit the UN's UHDR video recording platform.

There are also plenty of ways that you can work on the project if you're interested in helping.
